1 Peter 2:9-10 NKJ - 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Mercy is when the one Who is supposed to condemn you, and rightfully so (for all have sinned), instead steps in and saves you, inviting you back into His presence.
Sin caused us to separate from the light. Darkness is the absence of light. Jesus is the Light. We were once in the darkness of sin, but His mercy brought us back to Him.
Mercy and compassion are intertwined. Mercy is the fruit of compassion. Mercy is a gift given to someone who is suffering from someone acting with compassion.
Because we have received such a great gift such as this, a gift in the sense that we did not pay for it nor could we even if we tried, not only have we been spared from the sting of death, but we have been given the honor and privilege of serving as God's royal priesthood! We get to proclaim more loudly and boldly the praises of Him Who has called us out of the darkness and into His marvelous light! The gift of mercy that we have received, we now get to share with the world! Praise be to God!
GOD bless.
