The Power of Letting It Go

2 Kings 2:12-14 NKJ - 12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!” So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. 13 He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. 14 Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.

Elisha had to tear his old garment, completely destroying it to put on his master’s mantle. This symbolic act was not just a physical gesture, but a profound moment of surrender and transformation. By crossing the Jordan with Elijah, Elisha participated in a divine moment of anointing—a symbolic passing of the mantle, representing the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. It was at that moment, after the anointing, that Elisha was able to completely let go of his past, his former identity, and embrace the new calling that GOD had for him.

In life, there are moments when we too must "let go" of our old garments—our past hurts, fears, and familiar ways of thinking. These garments represent everything that holds us back from fully stepping into our divine purpose. Just as Elisha had to leave behind Elijah, we sometimes need to leave behind things that are no longer serving us. The act of letting go isn’t easy, but it is necessary for growth. Only when we allow ourselves to let go of the old can we fully embrace the new anointing and blessings that GOD has prepared for us. As we tear down the walls of our former selves, we open up to the possibility of crossing over into new territory—where miracles happen, and GODS power moves mightily in our lives. GOD bless, share with your family and friends.
