Psalm 119:160 - NKJV - The entirety of Your word is truth,
And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.
For anyone who has ever taken a philosophy class, there is always going to be a discussion about where we get our morals from. Morals are what tell us what is bad and what is good. When we think about "moral progress," we mean that morality seems to have moved in a direction where it has improved. But how do we know that morality is moving in the right direction? A man once said that the moral arc of the universe is a long one, but it bends towards justice. Why is it that morals seem to bend towards justice and love as a supreme ethic?
The bible tells us that the LORD of all creation is the foundation by which all of reality exists. The bible also says that the LORD is just and loving from all eternity. Even though the universe is ever-changing, GOD never changes. If He exhibits His characteristics to and for His creation, it makes sense that His love and justice form the standard by which all moral truth is measured.
Human laws are constantly changing. Even within the past 200 years, the U.S. has drastically changed its laws to the point that, today, we observe its past with disapproval and harsh criticism. Why? Because human laws aren't perfect. Because human laws aren't perfect, they are always subject to change. GODS laws, however, ARE perfect, which is why they last forever. What's the point? Don't put your trust in the laws of man or the man that gives them because both are subject to change. Meditate on the law of the LORD, which endures forever, and the GOD Who gives it and reigns forever. GOD bless.
