Say It While They Are Able

John 13:34-35 NKJ - 34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Before the cross, Jesus warned His disciples that the time was near when He would be crucified, and they would scatter like sheep without a shepherd. In a profound act of humility and love, during the evening of the Passover supper, Jesus stood up and washed their feet—a task reserved for the lowest servant. This radical demonstration of love not only showcased His willingness to serve but also set the standard for how His followers should interact with one another. By encouraging them to love one another as He loved them, He was instilling in them the essence of discipleship: that their identity as His followers would be defined by their love.

The commandment Jesus gives is not merely a call to affection but an invitation to embody a transformative love that mirrors His own sacrificial love. In the context of His impending sacrifice, this command highlights that true love often involves laying down one's life for others (John 15:13). The Greek word for love used here, "agape," speaks to a selfless, unconditional love that goes beyond feelings—it is a choice to seek the well-being of others, reflecting the heart of Christ Himself.

As disciples, our witness to the world hinges on this love; it is the hallmark of our faith and the clearest evidence of Christ living within us. In a world that often prioritizes division, our commitment to love one another as Christ loves us becomes a powerful testimony of His presence in our lives. Let us, therefore, be diligent to express this love while we have the opportunity, demonstrating the truth of our discipleship in every interaction. GOD bless. Share with your family and friends.
