Philippians 1:27 - NKJV -
"27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel"
There were probably many in Philippi who only did good when they felt that they were being watched in order to win the approval of their peers. Even today, there are many who only do good to keep up appearances. How many times do we do good in front of spectators but evil behind closed doors?
Paul tells the church in Philippi to let their conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ. Whether he was there in person or absent, he wanted them to live according to the gospel of Christ and not according to his attendance. In his absence, he hoped to hear of their affairs when striving in one spirit for the faith of the gospel.
To do good even when no one is looking is a sign that your actions are driven by the Spirit and not by vain desires. Of course, the LORD is always watching, yet it is easy to forget this fact. If we truly love the LORD, then we should desire to please Him in His sight.
Do good in the presence of spectators so that they may praise the LORD Who inspires us to do so. Do good in the absence of spectators to please the LORD and fulfill your calling. GOD bless.
