I Rather Trust The LORD Than In Man

Jeremiah 17:5-8 NKJ - 5 Thus says the Lord:

“Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the Lord. 6 For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land which is not inhabited.

7 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord. 8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes. But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

When you go to sleep tonight, you seem to do so with the assumption that you will wake up the next day. How many people has that NOT been true for? If there are those who go to sleep, never to wake again and we do not know whether we will be counted among them, how can we be so confident that when we go to sleep that we will be able to open our eyes again?

The answer simply comes down to one word: Trust. We trust that the roof won't collapse on us in our sleep; we trust that our locked doors will keep bad people from coming into our homes; we trust that when we go to sit down the chair will be able to hold us up. The decisions we make seem to be realized when the criterion of trust is met.

However, let us just take a step back and ponder on what exactly it is that we tend to put our trust in. If we were to gamble with our entire lives, is it worth gambling on the idea that our bedrooms are secured or whether the chair we sit on will hold us up? These seem to be too trivial to place our trust in. Okay, let us raise the stakes; is it worth placing our trust in man, be it you, family, friend, or acquaintance? For some, their answer might be yes. However, whether it is us or someone you know, the reality is that none of us knows what tomorrow holds. James 4:14 says, "whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."

The bible informs us that there is no other foundation that can be laid than that which has already been laid, which is Christ Jesus (see 1 Corinthians 3:11). Jesus is the foundation that does NOT move. If Jesus is fundamentally unchanging, omniscient, and absolute, then there is no better candidate to whom we should place our trust in. I don't know what you put you trust in, but it is far better to place your trust and confidence in the One Who holds our tomorrow.

GOD bless.
