2 Timothy 2:22 - NKJV -
"22 Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart."
It is natural to have the basic instinct of fear whenever we encounter something dangerous. Imagine you are hiking with a group of friends in the mountains, and suddenly, you encounter a grizzly bear. The moment you see the grizzly bear, you immediately take note of its size and power, knowing that you are in danger of being seriously injured or devoured. In the face of such obvious danger, your basic instinct compels you to flee and preserve your life. Why? Because the bear can easily harm you if you decide to stay. Sin is very much like that bear.
The bible often describes "sin" and the "devil" as beasts that wait at the door, lying on wait to devour you. 1 Peter 5:8 says, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." Interesting enough, when we witness the temptation of sin, instead of running away, we are often seduced to stay, and eventually, commit the act.
However, as children of the Most High, we are told to flee from sin. In other words, we should not give sin any kind of time to simmer and cultivate within our hearts. We are told to flee from sin and run towards righteousness. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, "13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."
