Matthew 5:6 - NKJV -
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled."
Have you ever been so hungry that you were desperate for any kind of food? Have you ever been so thirsty that even a drop of water was considered refreshing? That feeling of desperation in either case is what we should have for righteousness.
We hunger for many different kinds of things besides food. For example, we hunger to be successful or to be recognized. Likewise, we thirst for certain things as well, like attention or romantic relationships. However, these things rarely ever live up to expectations, and we tend to still find ourselves hungry and thirsty for more. In other words, we are never truly satisfied by these things.
So, how can our appetite and yearning be satisfied? Jesus says that if we take that same desperation and aim it towards righteousness, we will not be disappointed. In fact, He promises that we will be filled. When we feel unsatisfied, incomplete, and/or without purpose, it is because we have stepped outside of God's design. We were designed to fulfill righteousness. If you have a hunger and thirst, aim it towards righteousness, which is God's will in Christ Jesus. GOD bless.
